As an owner-managed EMS service provider with over 30 years’ experience, our company was at a crucial turning point: with the arrival of a new managing director and our simultaneous growth, it was clear that we needed to fundamentally overhaul our management structures and strategic direction. We lacked a shared vision, transparent lines of responsibility and a leadership culture that could keep pace with our growth. Decisions were being made too slowly, roles were not clearly defined, and a unifying shared purpose was completely absent.
Today, we run the company according to a mission statement that was developed jointly by both managing directors and is actively put into practice by our team leaders. Our five newly appointed team leaders have a clear understanding of their roles, concrete leadership tools and – perhaps most importantly – they take action themselves. The company operates with significantly greater clarity regarding goals, responsibilities and the shared path forward. What began as a sense of disorientation has evolved into a structured transformation process that involves all levels of management.
Mr Hemersch kicked off the process with a structured initial assessment to gauge the starting point for both managing directors and identify the key areas for action. In the subsequent full-day in-depth workshop, he worked with us to develop a robust corporate purpose, lay the strategic foundations and clarify our understanding of our roles as a leadership duo. Months later, he designed and led a bespoke two-day leadership training programme for our team leaders – practical, drawing on real-life situations from day-to-day business, and structured in such a way that it generated a dynamic we hadn’t anticipated. His ability to convey complex leadership topics in an accessible way whilst creating an atmosphere in which everyone actively contributed ideas made all the difference.
